Image Resizer & Converter

Resize, crop and convert images.

Images are resized in your browser and never uploaded.

About the Image Resizer

This tool resizes, crops and converts images entirely in your browser with the Canvas API. Nothing is uploaded, so it is safe for screenshots and private photos.

It reads PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF (first frame), AVIF and SVG, applies the EXIF orientation of phone photos so they don't come out sideways, and saves PNG, JPEG or WebP. Large reductions are done in halving steps, which keeps fine detail from turning jagged. The output is limited to 8192 px per side and 40 megapixels.

How to use it

  1. Drop an image on the page, paste one with Ctrl V, or click to choose a file.
  2. Set a width or height in pixels (the other follows when Keep aspect ratio is on), or switch to Percent.
  3. To change the shape, turn off the aspect ratio and choose Crop to fill, Fit inside or Stretch.
  4. Pick a format and, for JPEG or WebP, a quality. The preview and the new file size update as you go.
  5. Select Download. The file is named after the original plus its new size, such as photo-1280x853.jpg.

Examples

The presets cover common jobs:

1920 wide full-width hero image, height follows
Square 1080 crop to 1080 × 1080 for social posts
Open Graph 1200×630 link-preview card (og:image), cropped to fill

Common questions

Will the image lose quality?

Smaller images stay sharp; enlarging can't add detail, so upscaled images look soft. JPEG and WebP below quality 80 show artifacts on text and edges.

Which format should I use?

JPEG or WebP for photos, PNG for screenshots, logos and anything with transparency. WebP is usually 25 to 35 percent smaller than JPEG at the same visual quality.

Why is my transparent background white?

JPEG can't store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background color you choose. Use PNG or WebP to keep it.

Can it open iPhone HEIC photos?

Only in Safari. Other browsers can't decode HEIC, so convert the photo on the phone first or export it as JPEG.
