About the Structured Data Validator
This tool finds the JSON-LD on a page (every <script type="application/ld+json"> block) and checks it. Fetch a URL, or paste HTML or JSON-LD directly. JSON syntax errors are reported with the line, the column and a likely cause, such as a trailing comma or single quotes. Arrays and @graph are flattened, @id references are followed, and every typed item is checked for a schema.org @context.
For common rich result types it checks the properties that Google's Search Central documentation lists as required and recommended: Article, BlogPosting and NewsArticle, Product with Offer, AggregateOffer, AggregateRating and Review, BreadcrumbList, Organization, LocalBusiness and its subtypes, FAQPage, Event, Recipe, VideoObject, WebSite, JobPosting and SoftwareApplication. It also flags dates that aren't ISO 8601, prices with currency symbols and invalid currency codes. Microdata and RDFa are counted but not validated.
How to use it
- Choose Fetch a URL and enter a page, or Paste code and paste HTML or JSON-LD.
- Run the check.
- Fix syntax errors first (a block with invalid JSON is ignored entirely), then missing required properties.
Examples
- Check the JSON-LD on a webmastertools.dev page: WebApplication and BreadcrumbList markup.
- Validate a pasted Product: it's missing offers, review or aggregateRating.
Common questions
Is this the same as Google's Rich Results Test?
No. It follows Google's published property lists, but Google applies more rules, renders JavaScript and decides on its own whether to show a rich result. Confirm important pages with the Rich Results Test.
Why does a type say there are no checks?
The tool only has rules for the types above. Other schema.org types can still be valid; the Schema Markup Validator checks any type.
Are FAQ rich results still shown?
Since August 2023, only for well-known, authoritative government and health sites. The markup is still valid elsewhere.
