Looking for a QR code…
About the QR Code Scanner
This tool reads a QR code from an image: a screenshot, a photo or a saved QR file. Decoding happens in your browser with the open-source jsQR library, and the image is never uploaded. The scanner tries the picture at several sizes and in inverted colors, so it also finds small codes in larger photos and light-on-dark codes.
It shows the decoded content and explains what it is. For links it shows the real site and path, and warns about shortened links that hide their destination, plain http, raw IP addresses, look-alike international domain names, unusual ports, and text before an @ that disguises the real host. You can trace the redirects, check the certificate or look up the domain before visiting. Links are never opened automatically.
It also recognizes Wi-Fi logins (network, security and password), contact cards (vCard and MECARD), email, phone, SMS and location codes, and two-factor authentication (otpauth://) codes, whose secrets stay hidden until you choose to show them.
How to use it
- Drop an image, paste a screenshot, or click to choose a file.
- Read the content and any warnings.
- For a link, trace its redirects before opening it.
- Copy the content if you need it.
Examples
- Make a code to test with: download it as PNG and drop it here.
Common questions
Why is no code found?
The code may be blurred, cut off or too small in the picture. Crop closer to it and keep the quiet zone (the light border) around it.
Is it safe to scan a QR code I found?
Decoding an image is safe; the risk is the link inside. Phishing codes ("quishing") often use shortened links or look-alike domains, which this tool flags.
Can it use my camera?
No. It reads images only, so no camera permission is needed. Take a photo or screenshot and drop it here.
