About the SERP Snippet Preview
This tool shows how a page title, meta description and URL might look as a search result, on desktop and on mobile. Search engines cut titles and descriptions by their width in pixels, not by a number of characters, so the preview measures the text with the browser's canvas measureText in Arial and truncates at a word boundary with an ellipsis.
The limits are widely cited approximations: about 600 px for a desktop title at 20 px, about 920 px for a desktop description at 14 px (two lines), two lines for a mobile title and about 680 px for a mobile description. Counters show the characters and pixels used, with a Good, Short or Too long state. The URL is shown as a breadcrumb (https://example.com › blog › post), the way results display it.
It also suggests fixes: a title that doesn't mention the site name, repeated words, text in all caps, a description that is missing, too short or the same as the title, and a URL on plain HTTP.
How to use it
- Type or paste the title, the meta description and the page URL.
- Optionally enter the site name for the brand check; otherwise it's guessed from the domain.
- Adjust the text until both previews show what matters before the cut.
Examples
- Preview a long title: it gets cut on desktop.
- Preview a short description: flagged as too short.
Common questions
Will Google show exactly this?
Not always. Google often rewrites titles, picks its own snippet from the page text to match the query, and changes its layout from time to time. The preview shows how your own text fits.
Why pixels and not characters?
Letters have different widths: a title of capital Ws fits far fewer characters than one of lowercase letters. A 60-character limit is only a rough guide.
